It Can End Up Being Good
A girl with a difficult background she has been among of 2782 children who have been withdrawn/rescued and rehabilitated at Kiwohede Manzese Domestic workers Centre out of hazardous domestic servitude.
Nyambo (not a real name), after experiencing multiple rape , sexual harassment and battery from her employer and the member of her employer’s family at the age of 12while working as Domestic workers, she had experience humiliation, torture and trauma.
Now 16, she has stooped to be a hero in her education. Although she went through the Complimentary Basic Education Program (COBET), the Government program which is being a piloted to serve children who have missed opportunity for basic education. Luckily Nyambo is the one of beneficiaries who is now continuing with her education through these programs. Nyambo she thinks her problems is past history, she says she is moving on with positive mind , she says in life you have sometimes to think what is ahead of you and how you can fulfill your dreams to come true. Although she is still harbored at KIWOHEDE Centre, because her extended family refused her, she says it doesn’t worry her, she is determined to finish her school and join university to become a Lawyer, she will like to serve girls and boys who have experienced sexual exploitation. She says her tears will sweep the way for all education determined with ambitious and willing girls and boys to thrive and excel with proper education. She believes education is a window of hope and success
Child Domestic may cause child sexual abuse
This is the true story which happened to a child called Sarah (not her real name), at that time she was twelve years old and not completed Primary Education.
Her father died when she was young that she can’t remember even how was he looks like. Sarah was raised by her grandmother, the mother of his father. Sarah’s mother was poor and she got married to another man who didn’t accept her.
Early 2005, Sarah left her grandmother and was brought by her uncle (her father’s brother) from Morogoro to Dar es Salaam with the promise to continue with her education and he promise to took take care of her.
Sarah was taken to a certain married woman in Tabata ward who promised to take care of her and to enroll her in Tailoring course so that she can have her own tailoring office, unfortunately Sarah ended as a housegirl and her salary was taken by her uncle. Sarah didn’t get anything. The family had two children, her husband and two boys who were the relative of the woman. And the landlord house had two rooms Sarah shared a room with two boys who were older than her and they were jobless. The husband was daladala driver and the wife was a business woman who used to travel to Zanzibar.
In the house Sarah experienced a lot of tortures from the family member. One day Sarah was raped by those two boys who she was remaining with, she cried for the help and the boys managed to escape. Sarah got help from the neighbor who was also the Kiwohede children’s right committee member, he then managed to catch the boys and took them to the police, Sarah was taken back to her uncle's house and the incident was reported to KIWOHEDE and helped her to file a case. The first hearing was on 26th June, 2005 and finally on 17th May, 2007 the offender was sentenced 30 years imprisonment. Sarah still supported by KIWOHEDE psychosocial counseling and other basic needs. Sarah will complete her primary education this year 2010 at Kinyerezi Primary school.
