Kiota for Women's Health and Development (KIWOHEDE) is a non- profit health, rights and development advocacy organization for women and Children founded in 1998 by activist health workers. The organization was formally registered in 1999 with a registration number 8581. Since its commencement, KIWOHEDE used social economical and development activities as the organizing principle of its project to serve women, children, youth and the community. KIWOHEDE’s focus and concern has been on vulnerability of children, youth and women on different forms of abuse, sexual violence and exploitations jeopardize their health and dignity.
Based in Buguruni, one of the low-income areas in Dar es Salaam, KIWOHEDE is committed to work with poor communities in Tanzania to promote, children, youth, women's dignity and respect of their rights to lead healthful and non-traumatized life. Up to now KIWOHEDE works in seven regions in Tanzania. The regions are Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Arusha, Singida, Iringa, Mbeya and Ruvuma. In these regions KIWOHEDE has 22 Rehabilitations Centers operating for children affected by worst forms of abuse; of these 10 have residential facilities. In collaboration with the communities a series of activities and services are provided to the target group. |
To contribute to this noble mission, KIWOHEDE has been guided by 6 Founder members and other 7 nomited as the Board of Trustees, which is the supreme body of the organization. Under the Board of Trustees is a Management Team headed by the Executive Director. |

Major shift and change has been made on the vision, mission and programming areas of KIWOHEDE to realize the desired impact at the national, community and the target group (beneficiaries) levels. The focus is to institutionalize KIWOHEDE's work into the communities and engage with the government in creating enabling and supportive environments for children, youth and women to enjoy healthy and safe life, free of all forms of abuse, violence and exploitation.
Since its inception, KIWOHEDE has been directly intervening on problems facing children, youth and women in risk or affected areas by worst forms of abuse, sexual violence and exploitation. The Organization’s work for the past years of existence has been characterized by reacting on and motivated bythe support of the Organization. KIWOHEDE has build a name in Tanzania as a unique organisation working in this area particularly in preventing and withdrawing young girls in risks of prostitution, harzadous domestic work and trafficked who faced severe exploitation.
